Azud Disc Filtration Backwash Sequence
This video shows the sequential nature of the backflushing for the Azud Disc Filtration battery. The Disc Filtration batteries are made of many stages. When the Differential Pressure rises (or time elapses) the battery controller or PLC will enter the backflush sequence. The valves of one filter battery stage are manipulated and that stage only enters the backflush mode. Filtered water continues to the process from the other stages PLUS a small amount of filtered water is redirected to the backflushing stage. This sequence continues until each stage has been backflushed and the high DP has been cleared.

Azud Helix Disc Filtration - What's the Helix Effect for?
Placed in the base of the disc spine cartridge, the AZUD HELIX deflectors (which are angled) generate a helical centrifuge effect (similar to a cyclone separator) as the unfiltered water is forced across them. This moves and retains dirt and particles away from the discs and suspends them in the water circulating around the discs ie they are not yet trapped in the disc element. As the solids are simply suspended in the water and not yet trapped in the discs, the filter does not register a high differential pressure drop as often. Therefore the system requires less frequent and intensive backwashing. This translates to water savings through less backwashing (thereby improving the recovery rate in UF/RO systems).
